Intruder Alert

Posted by Adam Badke

What would you say if someone told you that 7 years from now you will have left your native land with nothing but a backpack, explored the world, entered the industry of your dreams and that your travels would eventually lead you to the beautiful city of Montreal to work with some of the most talented and ambitious game developers in the world, on some of the hottest IPs of the decade?

Well it's this exact, surreal situation that I've managed to find myself in... Wow.

My name is Adam, and it is with an extraordinary sense of excitement and enthusiasm that I'd like to introduce myself as Eidos Montreal's new Online Community Manager. Some of you might remember me as the Prototype 2 Community Manager for Radical Entertainment, some of you will get to know me in person at game industry trade shows or exhibitions and some of you might simply know me as "hey there – you in the bushes!" Either way, let me tell you a little more about myself.

Originally from sunny Queensland Australia, I've spent the majority of my adult life abroad exploring the world and trying to make a career out of what others do for fun. I'm a hardcore gamer, a technophile, a semi-professional casual dresser and an extra-large coffee mug appreciator. With a combination of determination, hard work and a few heavy dashes of good luck I've had the chance to work at several AAA studios on some truly fantastic games with some amazing people, and I can honestly say that it has been the time of my life.

Some of my fondest memories of growing up are of playing both Eidos and Square Enix games, so it's quite incredible to find myself having the opportunity to work with everything Deus Ex, Thief and Eidos Montreal. My day-to-day duties, among other things, include maintaining our social networking sites (if you haven't followed us on Facebook or Twitter yet, now is the time!), working with our dedicated moderators maintaining the community forums as well as planning any number of community events and activities for everyone to enjoy. I'll be here to participate in discussions, keep you abreast of community developments, share information and to answer your questions wherever I can (although like the launches of all modern games, I won't be able to discuss anything ahead of schedule on fear of death - please don't take it personally!) Other times, I'll just be here to hand out high fives and let you know that you're awesome - all in a day's work.

As this is your community, I'm also excited to hear your thoughts, ideas or feedback as well. In fact, if you have a great idea for the community, why not fire me a tweet @EidosMontreal and tell me about it? I've got 15 spare Steam keys for the complete Thief Collection to award to the best tweets on Monday, November 5th 2012 – so get tweeting! I'm really looking forward to getting to know everybody here and I have a lot planned for the Eidos Montreal community in the coming months. I can't wait to make this great community even greater!

Game on.
